MEET DJ PAUL PETERS & GEOFF KEMP

I started out in radio 45 years ago in November 1965, when at the age of just 16 I left home to become a d.j. on an offshore Pirate Radio Station called Radio Essex. This station broadcast from an old WW2 Naval Fort called Knock John, which is some 18 miles out to sea in the middle of the Thames Estuary.
Later in the 70's I worked for BBC Radio in the south east of England presenting shows such as the 78 Show on BBC Radio Medway. These days I can be found on Forest FM here in the New Forest area of England and also on a few stations around the world. In 2007, and again last year, I was asked to take part in Pirate BBC Essex (Google it) a station that the BBC sets up now and again to remember the old pirate stations of the 1960's. Of coutse Geoff was asked along too and we had a Fabulous time working on the L.V. 18, the old light ship that the BBC use for this. By the way, if you have seen the film 'The Boat That Rocked' re named 'Pirate Radio' for the U.S. you will have seen the bits of the ship as it was used in the making of the film.
My love of music is probably like the baby boomers. I like the old stuff, and Geoff and I, we are in business together and by the way, have a huge collection of 78s, 45s, and L.Ps. along with some old radios and Gramophones. These are stored in the large attic studio that we have at Court House our small farm in Somerset. This photo of Geoff and I with the old brass horned gramophone was taken in the attic studio.
